Tomas Alfred Røen

Tomas Alfred Røen is a lecturer in International Studies and Peace and Conflict studies at Bjørknes University College. He is an expert and frequently used commentator on the Central African Republic and the role of France in Africa. He holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Oslo, Norway and Stellebosch University, South Africa, respectively. Tomas has also studied French at the University of Sorbonne, Paris. Previously, he has worked for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the United Nations Association.

Having been brought up in the Central African Republic, Tomas follows politics and conflict in Central- and West Africa closely and is fluent in French and familiar with Fulani and Gbaya. He also has basic skills in Swahili and Afrikaans.

Tomas has worked in Cameroon, the Central African Republic, France, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Madagascar. He has experience with assessment for the UNHCR in Cape Town and has worked as a consultant. He has extensive experience with education in Africa and has led student missions to Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa and Madagascar. At Bjørknes University College he lectures at the bachelor programs in International Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. He also heads the work of developing the two mentioned programs online.
